- Phantom is set to OFF
- LINE/PHONES (Volume) is set to about 70-80%
- Mic INPUT L is set to about 60% (These arent exact, as you'll see soon)
- XLR->RCA from the gray "LINE OUT" to "L MIC IN" on the bottom of the device. NOTE IF USING US144MK2 buy a TRS to TRS cable. Connect from from "PHONES" on the bottom of the unit to the TRS "LINE IN L" (apparently the phones output works better for this step of figuring out the frequency response of the US144 tascam unit)
Plug the TRS -> TRS here
If you got the m-audio then try the headphone out to line in, or try the line out to line in
Now, press the "Calibrate..." button. These screenshots were done with a slightly older version, thats why its inconsistent with the beginning of the tutorial.
Click Next twice
It will tell you to adjust the output until you reach -12dB FS, so turn the LINE OUT knob on the tascam itself until it hits -12db, this is why i said earlier they arent exact
Press next twice and it will pop up a window and run a sweep, afterwards you should have something like this
Click on ALL SPL on the top of the graph to look at the FR by itself,
In the little tabbed window it should say
"Output device: Speakers (TASCAM US-144 MKII)
Output: No output selected
Sweep level: -12.0 dB
20 Hz .. 20 kHz flatness: 0.0, -0.9"
(+x.x, -x.x) will vary
Press MAKE CAL, usually i just save it as the date of the calibration.
